Abstract: Checkpoints regulate the normal progression of the cell cycle. Disturbance in the normal function of these checkpoints can induce genomic instability, which is associated with cancer initiation. One such form of instability, aneuploidy, can result from alterations of cell cycle checkpoints, and can induce large imbalances in gene copy number. These imbalances could, in turn, alter the expression of gene products involved in cancer development.
