Biotransformation of organofluorine materials into the optically
active functionalized fluorinated materials along with the discussion on the effect
of fluorine atom(s) during the enantioselective and/or diastereoselective
transformations is described. The ability of microorganism to discriminate between
enantiomers is very important for the purpose of resolution and asymmetric
synthesis. Also included are discussions on recent developments in methodologies
to control enantioselectivities of catalytic reactions. Examples of practical
applications that involve reduction of various types of ketones are also included.
