Diabetes Mellitus (DM) affects many parts of the eye. While we
traditionally associate vision loss from DM with diabetic retinopathy, it can affect
various structures of the eye other than the retina. In this chapter, we will focus on the
disease’s effects on the lens, and on the drainage apparatus of the eye. Specifically, we
will look at cataract and glaucoma incidence in DM and its etiologic role, and then
discuss treatment strategies.
